8 Tips on water safety

 Last week we went to Jellie park with all the year 7's ,8's and 9's from Tieke. It was a very very fun day, when I got to the bus I saw everyone exshausted. Our teacher told us to some blogging about Jellie Park. We had to choose 1 activity to do on EOTC task board and I choosed this. I made a DLO about tips on water safety.

Coastal Wolves Facts

Hi Kumusta, Today in making a new blog post from our Wananga activity board. I made a Facts about Coastal Wolves. I learned that they were other types of wolf that swim. This is the DLO I made!

Kapre

Hi, On Tuesday we we're ask to do a DLO about a mythical creature that they believe. We did this DLO because it relates to Halloween. JV, Tristan, Khyle and I choose a mythical creature from Philippines "Kapre" for our work. We choose this because we always hear stories about this mythical creature.

Gymnastics

It's been a while since I blogged about P.E. So today I will be making one, Hi Kumusta, In P.E we have been doing gymnastics. I tried to do a 360 turn on the beam but I ended up just doing 180 over a cone.

I also did tuck jump, straddle and 360 turn.

The hardest activity I wanted to do was to do a 360 jump over a cone in the beams, because if I make a mistake I would probably hurt myself.

5 Types of Leadership

Hi Kumusta, In our Wednesday Wananga we were studying about types of leaderships. After the teachers finished explaining, we were set a task. Our task was to make a DLO about 5 types of leadership. This is the DLO I made. 

Drill Gauge

In our CMM technology for the past few weeks we have been making a grill gauge, we have been working on this project for about 7 weeks now and it was a very very experience using other machines that I didn't know how to use. First thing we did was did a mock-up on tinker cad, then coppied the design on aluminium.

For this project we used: Tinker cad, Acrylic, Aluminium and tools like file, drill and more.

Business & Enterprise

 Yesterday was market day, We been selling ice cream. We bought 4 litre of ice cream and 48x of ice cream cones. It costed 19 dollars, we put our table outside then arranged our products. products that we been doing in Business & Enterprise. We had a sale last time we discussed it was $2-$3 and now it's was only $1 each. We had a lot of costumer bought our ice cream because it was cheap. After we sold out we cleaned up our mess and counted all of our money. After we've done counting we made a profit of $34.

 Hi Kumusta, Last few weeks we've been working on Business and Enterprise. Our company is called Cream Joy and I am with Jv, Jesse and Alex. We agreed to make ice cream for market day and we will be making Ice cream with a flavoured Doritos. So far we've been working well on our business plan . Yesterday Jv and I started making our banner and tomorrow we are going to try finishing our banner.

What are you most excited for on market day? I'm excited to sell our product and I'm excited to taste and buy other companies product.

New Zealand's Government Structure

Hi Kumusta, Yesterday we researched about the New Zealand's Government Structure. Me and Khyle then made a DLO about the Government and how it works. So here it is.

Metal Dog Tag

Hi, In our CMM/Metal we made a thing called dog tag. Dog tag means a metal tag attached to a dog's collar, typically giving its name and owner's address. First we designed it on tinker cad them we used lazer cut on acrylic then we did on wood.

Stop Motion

Hi Kumusta, Today in our science we did stop motion about conduction. This is our work, I worked with Khyle in this work. We heated the spoon then particles got hot and passed the heat to the other particles while vibrating, then it keeps going until the paper clips fall.

Particle Theory & Diffusion

Hi Kumusta, This week our focus for science are Particle Theory and Diffusion. Particles are small unit of matter

-Aim: Investigate if particles diffuse faster in hot or cold water.

-Hypothesis: I think it will diffuse faster in hot water than cold Water.

-Result: My hypothesis were right, The hot water diffused first.

-Discussion It happened because heat/hot water gives energy to the particles to move faster.

  Bottom one is the hot water.

Super Hero

Arts Kete

In the last few weeks we did our Arts Kete, I choose lazer cutting because the one I want was already full. In my arts kete we designed the thing we want to lazer cut in a paper, others did Maori designs, and cool patterns and  my first Idea was a clock with the purpose word in it then I started to draw it and I came up with another Idea and it was a wood with the word 'Live With Purpose'. Few days later When we did our final design I thought of cutting the wood in half and cut out the P,U,R letters then place it in a paper and then in the other half ill cut out POSE letters in the wood then ill take the wood and place it in the paper.

Evaporation Experiment

Kumusta, In the past few lesson in our science we've been learning evaporation and today were about to do a experiment about it.

Aim: To evaporate Copper Sulfate (Blue Liquid) to separate the mixture.

Hypothesis: I think that there will blue stuff left in the 

Equipment: Copper sulfate solution, 250ml Beaker, heat proof mat, evaporating basin, element.

Method: 

1. Set up the element.
2. Add 100ml of hot water to the beaker and place on the element.
3. Add copper sulfate to the evaporating basin until it is quarter full.
4. Carefully, place the evaporating basin on the top of the beaker.
5. Turn the element to 8.
6. Heat the solution most of the solvent has been evaporated and crystals of solute are forming.
7. Turn off the element-careful not to touch as will be hot for a long time.

Conclusion: I can see that my hypothesis is correct because it left with blue crystals on the evaporating dish.

The Great Bubble Adventure

Hello readers today at our first day of term 2, In our Wananga we did an activity first thing we did was made a big circle and we needed to choose 2 different pipe cleaners. We had to share something we've done on lock down. The colour i got was red and yellow and I choose yellow, I had to share something learning that I enjoyed on lock down and my answer  was I enjoyed learning Japanese. After that we had to make our pipe cleaner to the thing we shared and I made the Japan flag. Have a great day BYE!!

Kumusta, today I learned FACKTS mapping and I tried making one. This was my first try making it and it was just a practise one. If you didn't know FACKTS means Frame, Arrow, Colour, Key, Title and Scale. Have a great day BYE!!

My Favourite Animal

Golden Eagle 

The Golden eagle is North America's largest bird of prey. It can grow to a length of 3 feet, with a wingspan of 6 to 7 feet. Its plumage is dark brown with flecks of gold colouring around the head and neck. They have brown eyes, a yellow beak and talons that grow to 3 inches. Females can get to mass of 3-7 kg and Males can only get to 3.6 kg.

They build large nest in cliffs and other high places. Females lay up to 4 eggs, then they incubate them for six weeks. They are extremely swift, and can dive upon their quarry at speeds of more than 150 miles per hour. Golden eagles are carnivore, they use their sharp talons to snatch up rabbits, ground squirrels, reptile, birds and fish.

Effect on the viewer - happy, chilled, exciting, educational, inspiring.

Director - Wants to create a happy and safe atmosphere in Mr Browns classroom. Even though it feels this way, Julian & Amos's Behaviour is unkind.

In the scene of August's first day at school, lighting and colour are used to create a safe and welcoming classroom environment. For instance, Bright warm colours are used on the walls and natural comes through the windows to make the space looks lively. This makes the audience feel excited, Inspired, and that the space is educational and supportive for learning. This was done to show Mr Brown had created a classroom space that would be welcoming to new students like Auggie. 

Coinciding with this  is the used of body language. The children in the room are sitting up, smiling, and paying lots of attention they are learning ready. This reminds the viewer of the theme Kindness because the lighting and colour make the room welcoming for all students. 

The Impact of Angles, Movement & Shot

A-Fight - Jack fighting Julien because Julian called Auggie a freak.
- teacher pulling Jack off - Mr Brown
- Dutch tilt used - shows something is not right
- Low angle     - make look one person smaller than the other
                        - Julian looks weak and vulnerable.

Viewers feels - Shocked - didn't expect Jacks reaction, surprised, concerned, uneasy.

Director - Surprised, sad, worried for Jack.

Other Techniques - Music - Creates atmosphere, minor slow motion - makes more intense.


In the film Wonder, low angle shots were used effectively. This is demonstrated in the scene where Jack attacks Julian because he called Auggie him a freak. In this scene a low angle dutch tilt shot is used to make Jack look stronger and Julian weak and vulnerable. This makes the audience feel shocked, surprised and concerned because we didn't expect a violent reaction from Jack who has not be aggressive before this point. The purpose of this was to show the theme of kindness as Jack finally stands up for Auggie. Combined with this is the use of quiet, minor music and slow motion to create an atmosphere and the event feel more intense. This can be contrasted to the nature reserve fight scene where Auggie now shows kindness by standing up for Jack.


Fight Scene - Nature reserve - Auggie makes friends, high 5 no plague, Jack, Amos & others. They beat up & run away from 7th Graders.
- Wide angle, long shot - makes us feel like we are a bystander watching an important moment, the emotions are the character, not ours.

- Audience - Joyful, proud, Cheerful, ecstatic relieved - Auggie finally is included, has friends.

- Director - Shows Auggie is finally fitting in, shows theme ( importance of friendship) or (Kindness)

- Other Techniques - Lighting - use of shadow-silhouette outlining the boys, feels like they are all in it together.

Wonder Theme Writing

Kindness - When people are respectful, caring, helpful and include others.

Example  - Natur

- Amos and the boys rescue Auggie and Jack from the bullies. At the end they high fiveAuggie.Shows
- kindness because up until this point the others hadn't touched him or treated him with respect.
- Theme of kindness is important because through it Auggie makes friend, is more confident and happier.

Example  - Cafeteria scene Summer sits with Auggie

- Shows theme of kindness because Summer leaves the friend she has been sitting with who were bystanders and went to sit with Auggie because he was alone.
-Summer helps rebuild Auggies trust in friendship. If she hadn't shown kindness by sitting with him he wouldn't have learnt to make new friends and move on.

Importance of Family and Friendship

Through these relationships our characters build trust, resilience and self confident.

Example - Scene Where Auggie cuts off his padawan braid.

- Link to importance of family because shows that when Auggie is feeling sad/alone/depressed that he has a support network to build his resilience
- Home is Auggie safe and supportive place. He needs this relationship with his parents to help him build confidence to make new friends.

Example - When Jack punches Julian for calling Auggie a freak

- Shows importance of friendship because Jack wasn't willing to let Julian bully Auggie anymore. Auggie is a real friend to Jack, whereas Julian is the kind of friend that puts you down if you don't agree with him.
- Is important because it shows how real friends treat each other, they build trust and can forgive.

Being right vs. Being popular - doing the right thing, even if no one is watching or no one else doing it.

Example - Julian bullies Auggie

- Julian chooses to do things to be popular rather than doing the right thing. He calls Auggie names, hide notes in his locker and tells Auggie he should kill himself. Julian is the most popular boy in the class so when he chooses to be mean that becomes the thing to do.
- Julian shows importance of being right over being popular because through his actions he is removed from the school and loses his friends. Juxtaposed to this is wild. He decides he would rather be kind to Auggie and as a result keeps all his friends and isn't kicked out.

Learning Reflection - Hauora

• A conclusion on what the 'whare tapa wha' is and and how it illustrates Hauora?

Whare Tapa Wha is about our Physical, Mental & Emotional, Spiritual and Social. This is very important because if your well-being's is kinda down that means your not healthy.

• How did you participate during this lesson? 

I participated okay. I contributed by answering the teachers question, Next time maybe I can help my mates.

• What is the current state of your Hauora? My 4 well-being is okay and I know what I need to work on to keep healthy. I could do this by Sleeping early so I won't be tired at school.

Testing Simple sugar

Method Simple Sugar:
1. Place about 2 ml of the sample into a test tube and then add 5 drops of Benedict's Solution.
2. Heat with a Bunsen until it changes colour. Do not boil.

Result Simple Sugar

• Eggs - No 
• Milk - No
• Glucose - Yes
• Bread - No
• Apple - Yes

Testing Protein

Method Protein:

1. Place about 2 ml of the sample into a test tube and add 5 drops of sodium hydroxide.

2. Add 5 drops of copper sulfate.

3. Shake the test tube gently from side to side

Result:

• Bread has no protein
• Milk has protein
• Glucose sugar has no proteins
• Egg is protein
• Potato has no protein
• Apple has no protein

Conclusion: My hypothesis were right. 


Discussion: I found out that egg and milk has no Complex sugar and Simple sugar.

Significant - We see Auggie lose faith in the idea of friendship -  If Jack can be that mean behind his back how can he trust others

Jacks Fight Scene: 1.06

- Starts a eye level - mid/ medium shot, makes us feel a part of the convo.

During fight shots used to make Auggie and friends bigger - more powerful and the bullies weak and vulnerable.

Significant - Auggie has grown as a character, he is now willing to stand up for himself.

-Friendship - Auggie finally feels accepted when the other boys doesn't have to hide behind a mask anymore.

5. If you are over the second marker when you jump it is a fowl jump.

Make-Up: Lipsticks or power applied to the face to enhance the character appearance.

Colour: Used to set the mood of characters or scene. Yellow is used as happy and red is used as angry.

Lightning: The arrangement or effect of lights

Props: Used on the set of a play or movie.

Setting: Where an event takes place

Dialogue: Conversation between two or more people as a feature of the book, film, movies.

Sound effects: A sound other than speech or music made artificially for use in a play, movie or film.

Music: Describes an ongoing scene

Silence: No sound for a serious acting

Symbol: a mark or character used as a conventional representation of an object, function.

Special FX: Used to create a more realistic look for the film or movie.
